Growing Indigo Together

Blue Monkey is a community-driven project dedicated to expanding indigo fields and indigo culture in Amsterdam.

Indigo is more than a plant. It is a living connection between land, people, craft, and time. Through growing, harvesting, fermenting, dyeing, and sharing, indigo teaches patience, cooperation, and care.

Our project brings together farmers, artists, craftspeople, neighbors, and curious hands to cultivate indigo fields and keep this knowledge alive in a contemporary way.

Why We Started

Urban development and industrial systems have distanced many people from the origins of materials, colors, and food. We started Blue Monkey to gently reverse that distance.

By growing indigo locally in Amsterdam, we aim to:

• Reconnect people with land and seasonal cycles
• Support hands-on learning and shared labor
• Create sustainable sources of natural indigo
• Build a small but resilient community economy around care and craft

Blue Monkey Token (MKY)

To support this circulation of effort and care, we created the Blue Monkey Token (MKY).

MKY is a community token used to acknowledge contributions and enable exchange within the project. It can be earned by participating in field work, providing materials or land, and supporting the growth of indigo culture.

MKY is not an investment. It is a shared unit of participation that helps value flow back into the community.
